Network Solutions Sneaky Practices Comments on Front Running
Front Running is a process in which a Domain Name registrar monitors what domain names are being searched and then the registrar registers them before the customer gets a chance to. Often this is done if the customer does not buy the domain name the same day. I am sure you have seen how many registrars are themselves selling “premium” domain names. Network Solutions has been accused of front running. Network Solutions responded that they have a “four-day lock” on domain names searched. So they are front-running. Spokeswoman Susan Wade said “Network Solutions is not front-running,” but that Network Solutions does temporarily register a domain that a customer searches for. Network Solutions holds the domain for four days forcing the domain to be registered with Network Solutions. I have suspected this for years. When looking for a domain I always look on the site I intend to register with. When a domain name is available I always immediately register it at a low cost domain name provider such as Godaddy.
