Has the YouTube Length Limit Been Quietly Lifted?

It seems like forever that YouTube has limited the length of a video. In a recent post I wrote 10 Reasons For You Tube to Increase Size and Length Limits. It appears that YouTube has taken note and responded by doing just as I suggested. You will note on the YouTube Upload page that the size limit is 1.024 GB. Yes 1 GB. But this is old news. What is new is that I have just uploaded a video to YouTube that was almost 13 minutes long and the whole length was converted and played back. Previously the videos were cut down to 10 minutes. Now the Youtube help resources still says the limit it to 10 minutes but that is obviously not the case. Try it for yourself. Anyone care to upload a very long video and see what length limits are really in place?

How large was the file you uploaded? And when was your account created? If you created a “Director” account, when did you do that?

I’ve read that these things can affect how long the videos you post can be.

I just uploaded an 11 minute video and it was rejected.

“Rejected (length of video is too long)”

Are you setup with a director’s account?

Encouraged by the size limit (and seeing no length limit in sight on the upload page), I just uploaded a 44-minute, 657mb video under a Musician’s account, which was promptly rejected due to length.
