10 Reasons For You Tube to Increase Size and Length Limits

Bizarro has it right. It is time for You Tube to increase their 10 minute video length and 100 MB video size limit and here is why:
1. I have a director’s account and the limit is STILL 100 MB and 10 minutes
2. How does You Tube ever expect to start having full 2 hour movies made just for them?
3. Your Competitor LiveVideo.com has a 200 MB video file size limit and no length video limit.
4. Your Competitor Veoh.com has NO limit on size or length!
5. Here is a Premium Video complete with ads for your viewing pleasure:
6. Your Competitor DailyMotion.com has a 20 minute limit and a 150 MB video size limit.
7. It is the cool thing to do
8. What else are you going to do with those billions of dollars?
9. We deserve longer videos if ads are going to show up.
10. You Tube……You Tube…..You Tube……….Com’on…….
full 2 hour movies?
As in films created for youtube, or feature films? If it’s the former, I’m sure they’ll have a way for the directors to submit it to YouTube and they’ll post it on to the site (remember they have root access so no restrictions). In theory they could probably give users more bandwidth and space as necessary.
If they’re scared or alarmed by piracy, they should give it on a per-use basis. So the more subscribed or watched a user’s videos are, the more space allotted to them. But that raises some problems with inequality amongst the users, so it’s probably better they just up the limit for everyone. But they like to play with cold hard numbers, so don’t expect unlimited – which is basically unmetered – and that’s basically impossible.
There are other competitors with relaxed limits. Like stage6, megavideo and viddler.
Gmail became so ridiculously popular due to the massive file space it gave out. Maybe it is about time youtube follows that strategy.
I believe this is a #6.. well.. and a #1
only need to add the fact that you obviously don’t realize exactly how many more videos are on youtube..
and therefore how much more bandwidth is used.. and server space.. and processing power..
i think if you really thought about it, you’d realize the ratio of filesize/length limits:total amount of videos is probably skewed in youtubes favor.
Reasons why Youtube *won’t* be increasing the size and length limit anytime soon:
1. It forces people who want to submit longer videos to go through a lengthy review process, Youtube likes to avoid lawsuits (and Google loves to avoid them)
2. It avoids a whole slew of bandwidth-wasting fluff vids being posted.
3. Competitors? Right. And McDonalds needs to start serving up fresh-cooked, thick, juicy hamburgers with crisp green lettuce and red tomatoes because the burger place down the street does that. *buzzer* Wrong.
4. We don’t *deserve* anything. Youtube is a company and will do what is necessary to maximize profit. It’s the real world, deal with it.
These things being said, Youtube’s reluctance to improve its quality of service will be its end if it doesn’t change. Stagnation kills businesses, and Google’s recent acquisition is no different. Facebook is a good example of stagnation killing an internet company’s power. Myspace came and destroyed Facebook’s popularity, stealing it for itself.
The same will happen to Youtube if it doesn’t change. Google itself should realize the dangers of stagnation, as it too has taken down other companies. The growth of search engines like Yahoo, Altavista and Ask.com were all halted by Google’s emergence onto the scene. So too will Youtube/Google Video go if things don’t change and soon.
Youtube is an EXTREMELY popular part of the internet and it’s going to take a LOT to topple it, but it can be done. As for your list? I think three of those reasons are really just one, but that’s semantics I suppose.
This is a nice article..Thanks for sharing..^^
Of course they can, they’re Google now.
with the ammount of money youtube make there is no reason why they should not be the best video uploading site in the world
