Blockbuster videos is fighting back against NetFlix. Blockbuster announced today an in store kiosk to help download movies. The high speed connections for the kiosks allow downloads of movies in about 2 minutes. These movies are open and compatible with multiple devices. Of course Blockbuster hasn’t signed any content deals but it is an interesting idea. Of course the main problem is that you still have to go into the store. Oh well maybe this idea will evolve and improve.
Limelight Networks announced they are hiring 120 employees despite a falling share price. In my last post about Limelight Networks I noted their share price was hovering around $7. Their share price has now dropped to about $2-$3. Why they are hiring 120 new employees in the midst of a struggling share price and lawsuit judgement against them is a mystery to me. Sounds like a PR move hoping for buyout offer.
Finally the FCC is talking about the bogus cell phone cancellation fees. The FCC is finally working towards a compromise. I vote for immediate removal of all cell phone “fake fees” like International Connection Tax etc and no more contracts or cancellation fees. And unlimited everything for $19.99 a month. But I am serious. SERIOUSLY.

I cannot believe Sprint. Sprint is just getting huger and huger. Their customer support is also getting worse and worse. I see what they are trying to do with the Clearwire merger. But they are just going to end up being so big and so in debt that they can’t move. Then their customers will all leave and they will fold.

Sun is completely done right? MySQL purchase and JavaFX don’t think so
Sun is completely done right? I mean, Java is a dead language regulated mainly to cell phones and not for long there right? And even Microsoft no longer supports the annoying and huge Java SDK. Well Sun isn’t giving up. Sun recently bought the darling of the internet MySQL. Now Sun is releasing an internet application environment JavaFX at JavaOne. JavaOne is a major conference. The Sun JavaFX internet application environment will compete with Microsoft Silverlight and Adobe AIR. JavaFX can create Flickr and Twitter applications in Facebook and the same apps on JavaFX Mobile. It is a little funny that the application kept crashing during the demonstration. But Sun and Java aren’t giving up.

Electronic Arts has been trying to buy Take-Two Interactive Software. Take-Two Interactive Software recently said no again as Electronic Arts extended their offer and cut the price by twenty five cents per share. Take-Two Interactive Software is firmly against the offer. Electronic Arts was valued at about two billion dollars back in February. I for one am against this merger. Electronic Arts is too big as it is. The fourth installment of Grand Thef Auto (flagship of Take-Two Interactive Software) is set to release this month.
AOL is purchasing Bebo. AOL is buying social Network Bebo for eight hundred and fifty million dollars. Bebo is very popular in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and New Zealand. But does anyone in the United States care? Instead of buying another company many are calling for Time Warner to just dump AOL.
