Technorati Roars Back to Life
Technorati has come back to life and just now has completed a huge update of most of the blogs in the system. Maybe this has to do with the new President & CEO over at Technorati Richard Jalichandra. Richard Jalichandra has pledged increased stability and uptime. Technorati also moved to a new facility which may have contributed to the problems.
Stand up and take notice Darren Rowse, Technorati is back!
Today I checked out the new Hulu service. This is a new YouTube like site created by NBC and News Corp. The private beta distributes movies, tv shows, and more. Sony and MGM shows have been added. The service is free and there is no limit on streaming video. Very soon users will be able to embed full length episodes all over their place. I will definately be doing this with my favorites, Battlestar Galactica, The Simpsons, and Heros.
But beware there are ads all over the place including prerolls, banners, overlays, and commercials in the stream. Just like tv with ads all over it. Hopefully the volume won’t increase on commercials.
I don’t know what to think about this service. It is kind of cool but I somehow resent that it is offered by the big studios. You can see a demo on the Hulu Blog. I guess the tv and the computer really will merge into one giant unit.
Technorati has had some major problems lately. It appears that the size of the blogosphere has finally caught up with Technorati. The service has been iffy at best with few updates and much loss of data. Titles and descriptions of blogs have been dissapearing and ranks and pings have stopped. Is Technorati dead?
It seems like everyone these days finally knows what a blog is (or thinks they know what a blog is) or has at least heard of blogs. But let me tell you one thing my friend; a myspace blog or a free blog account is not a blog. And unless you are posting at least once a day to your blog, it isn’t blogging. The other thing to consider is if your blog has a purpose or if it is just a journal of your thoughts. That’s called journaling not blogging. Did you know that 50% of all bloggers stop posting after 3 months? Why is that? Because blogging is hard and it takes committment. And if you are not making money immediately with blogging then you frankly have better things to do with your time. If you are committed to blogging professionaly or simply to make some good money in the long term then why not contact me today?
Whatever happened to Friendster? In 2003 Friendster was the rage of the internet and had 60 million page views per day. But where is this social network now? Friendster is still around and claims to have 50 million members world wide. Friendster is following Facebook offering a platform for development and an open revenue model based on widgets and APIs. But actually, it sucks and no one uses it.

Bizarro has it right. It is time for You Tube to increase their 10 minute video length and 100 MB video size limit and here is why:
1. I have a director’s account and the limit is STILL 100 MB and 10 minutes
2. How does You Tube ever expect to start having full 2 hour movies made just for them?
3. Your Competitor LiveVideo.com has a 200 MB video file size limit and no length video limit.
4. Your Competitor Veoh.com has NO limit on size or length!
5. Here is a Premium Video complete with ads for your viewing pleasure:
6. Your Competitor DailyMotion.com has a 20 minute limit and a 150 MB video size limit.
7. It is the cool thing to do
8. What else are you going to do with those billions of dollars?
9. We deserve longer videos if ads are going to show up.
10. You Tube……You Tube…..You Tube……….Com’on…….
10 Tips for a Superior Web Site Design that is Search Engine Friendly
1. Do not use Flash
2. If you do use flash make sure everything is drawn from external .xml or .txt documents and image includes
3. Text should be text
4. Add a sitemap
5. Do not go crazy with flash or javascript navigation or at least add text links at the bottom of the page
6. The page size should be under 200 KB and under 500 KB if your users all have high speed internet (your web stats will tell you)
7. Add in some alt tags where appropriate for images
8. Add in some Heading tags where appropriate
9. Check how your design displays in IE and Firefox
10. Make sure the design is easy to change or replace. This includes using include files or templates as well as saving Photoshop .psd files in a vector format in an easy to find place.
It looks like the Google page rank update is in full effect but only in the negative aspect. This means that only page rank reductions seem to be happening. Many large and popular web sites as well as small web sites have seen page rank reductions of 1-2 points. Unfortunately most of the page rank 0 web sites have not been updated and remain at 0. Even the web sites which have been around for over 6 months with many links. I am seriously wondering if page rank will be stopped all together or require a minimum of 2 years before it is assigned.
RSS Readership is a Worthless Stat and here is why:
1. It is either an “estimate” or the number of clicks or hits on an RSS button in a given period of time
2. Hits has been a useless web stat for 20 years
3. What period of time are you using? Is it all time, monthly, daily? No one ever discloses this
4. It is easily gamed and falsely inflated
5. Just because someone requested to have your RSS feed sent to them does not mean they are reading it let alone looking at it
