YouTube Remixer Takes Hours

September 27th, 2007 admin No comments

I think the YouTube Remixer is the best idea currently on the web. Imagine editing your video online in real time. It is here and it works. The problem? It is slower than dialup. After doing anything you get a message that your remixed video may not be available for awhile. Well guess what? You had better go to bed and check it tomorrow because that is the soonest you will get it. It is a great service but some time improvements need to be made. I want instant results. Even 15 minute wait times would be acceptable. But 8 hours for connecting 2 30 second video clips? Common.

How does HTML compare to XHTML?

September 27th, 2007 admin No comments

How does HTML compare to XHTML? XHTML is much more strict and less forgiving than HTML. Many popular browsers allow for loose HTML but XHTML is much more complicated and thus creates problems for popular web browsers and upgrades. A strict coder would want to use XHTML because that is how their minds work. Since XHTML is case sensitive it returns more errors and requires more checking and time. In HTML you can leave non quoted attributes and non value items and there is no problem. XHTML throws a fit. The verdict? XHTML sucks and will never be adopted. It has already lost out to AJAX, Ruby, PHP, and Flash (JavaScript/ActionScript). It is a dying language but HTML plays an important part in every social network for images etc.

Flash Design? How Boring

September 12th, 2007 admin No comments

Flash Design bores me. It is too clunky, to inflexible, too unable to cross over into the mobile phone world. If you want to use a Flash Banner or Flash navigation fine. But it had better not be the whole site or any long term goal. You want real interactivity? Give AJAX or Ruby a try. Flash is better equipped for making moving advertisements at your local movie theater or for making animation movies than for making web pages.
